One has two basic choices when it comes to being instructed in the practice of yoga, gym or studio. For most people, the first introduction to yoga is through the local gym, most of which offer classes. However, there is a significant difference between instructors at a typical gym versus a studio.

When it comes to yoga, gym instruction is not always as thorough as it is when taken through a qualified studio. Most gym instructors do not undergo the same level of rigorous training that is required by most yoga studios. As such, students don’t receive the same level of training.

Another advantage of the yoga studio over the yoga gym is the personalized attention. The average gym-style yoga class can have up to 20-30 students, meaning that rarely do they get one on one instruction. By comparison, it is not unusual for a yoga studio to limit class size to 10 students or less.
